The only problem with fishing in deeper than 33 feet of water, they are probably all dead. A day here and there they have been a little tough, but for the most consistent bite, they have saved our butts on more than 1 occasion. Today we were in less than 20 feet of water for the duration of the day and we had biters all the way until the final whistle.Typically, the early ice bite on Devils Lake is pretty good. The fish always seem to be in the same areas year in and year out at this time. The mid-section of winter can vary from year to year. This winter it has been extremely difficult to find a consistent bite day in and day out. The deep was 36 feet of water, the shallow was bewteen 5-15 feet of water. With the weather change from bitter cold back to mild, I think the Perch and definitely the Walleyes are about to go off, get ready!! Good Luck out there! .
