There is a fan that pulls air in underneath the gateway; can elevate the modem to improve airflow. If the humming is unbearable I recommend that you swap it out again.The modem has a solid green power light, but the up and down arrows continously blink red. When I plug it in it immediately starts blinking, it doesn't even attempt to connect. If I plug an ethernet cable in I do not get any signal from the modem.
