Years ago I read an interesting AAR with CK2->EU4->Vic2 Megacampaign. There the player blobbed with Abbasids hard in CK2 and conquered most of the world, but didn't touch the British Isles. So the devs pretty much created a new game that contain similar elements to vic 2. Eu4 is pretty successful on the other hand. The devs don't need to reinvent the wheel.
